What is anxiety and when is it a problem?

Anxiety is universal. In small doses, it is what motivates you, and propels you forward to be successful. However, when anxiety begins to negatively affect your day to day life then anxiety becomes unhealthy. Symptoms of unhealthy anxiety include difficulty in daily tasks due to constant worry, feeling cloudy and unfocused in school or social situations, recurrent feelings of panic or that something bad is going to happen to you. Speak out if you are experiencing unhealthy anxiety. Talk to a trusted adult such as a parent, school counselor, or your doctor.

What is depression and when is it a problem?

From time to time it is normal to experience sad feelings. However, depression occurs when sad feelings become persistent and are often accompanied by difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite or lost interest in activities or spending time with friends. If you have the above symptoms or thoughts or plans of hurting yourself please seek immediate help. If in crisis call the suicide hotline 988 or text TALK to 741741.
